Sunflowers and Sun

It is another gorgeous summer day out here in Old Town Saginaw. We are enjoying every moment of it at Old Town University. So glad that the super hot and super humid weather is gone, for the moment. Makes painting a bit easier too.

Finished all the little painted touches to the One-Stroke painted Sunflower Welcome Plaque class sample now. Just need to put on the strap to hang it from. It turned out really cute. Love the background color, especially since I have a broken garden shovel in that color. How fun that I get ideas from making class projects. I'm planning on painting sunflowers on the shovel since the handle is broken and falling apart. Will make a very cute addition on my front door soon. So many great uses for these darling one-stroke sunflowers.

The kid's painted apron sample is completed too. I created a fun girl-y face for the sample but the kids will have other great ideas while in class. Love the spray fabric paint in the neon colors. Should be a ton of fun for the kids. I know my kids love to decorate their t-shirts with the sprays and fun stencils.

More samples yet to come - Kid's Painted Frame, Kid's Garden Stone, Travel Mini Album, the Technique tags (transfers), and the All Occasion Cards. Plenty of fun stuff to do and create at Old Town University in August. The September class calendar should be ready to post this week too. Busy, busy, busy around here this week.

Class Samples

August is almost here! Can't believe how fast July has gone by. Putting the final touches on some class samples for the August classes. One-stroke Painted Cards start the month off and are super cute. The Travel Mini Album is almost complete and turned out great, perfect for those vacation, summer trip photos. Cute, cute, cute. Just need some ribbons for the bindings. The technique for August is transferring images and there are such fun ways to do this. Just putting the finishing touches on the three tags for the samples and should have them posted today or tomorrow. Waiting for the paint to dry to add the final touches for the One-stroke Painted Welcome Plaque. Love sunflowers, they are so sunny and welcoming, perfect for this project. All the samples will be posted soon.

Scrapbook Bowling, Afternoon Tea and Crops

Can't believe that July is almost over. Where did this summer go?? There are still some fun classes and happenings going on at Old Town University.

This Saturday is our first Scrapbook Bowling event. A little friendly scrapbooking competition. Create layouts using specified embellishments, techniques and manufacturers to receive points. Prizes are awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place based on points earned and layouts created. Should be a blast!

Sunday is a lovely Afternoon Tea Seminar with all the trimmings of tea time. I love tea parties and all the yummy treats that go along with it. The menu for the seminar is super tasty. Here's the menu:

Savories: Cucumber Mint Sandwiches, Mushroom Chese Tartlets, Radish & Watercress Sandwiches, Chicken Salad Puffs

Scones: Cream Scones, Ginger Scones with Mock Clotted Cream, Strawberry Jam and Lemon Curd

Sweets: Chocolate Marmalade Cream Flutters, Lemon Bars, Banberry Tartlets, Lavendar Tea Cakes

Our monthly Friday Fun Crop is coming up on July 30th. There is the monthly Sunday Scraps Crop in August and an all day Back-to-School Blowout Crop on August 28th. Plenty of scrapbooking times available before school starts.

Here we are, our new blog. We are working on some exciting additions for our website and this is one of them. We can't wait to share the next new addition. It will be ready to go shortly so be sure to visit Old Town University website to check it out.

We have been busy finalizing the August class calendar. We have loads of fun stuff for the kids to do before returning to school. Traveling through time where the kids will discover pre-historic lands, visit ancient Egypt, go on a treasure hunt with pirates, and visit the Wild West. A talent showcase put on by the kids. There are a few different painting projects to choose from: a frame, a stepping stone and an apron. If you've got a shutterbug there is a two day photography class. We're even having a "Mad Hatter's" tea party. The kids are going to have a blast.

We are looking forward to our "Open Studio" event coming up on August 7th. I can't wait to see the artists and artisans at work. We are hoping to make this a quarterly event if it works well.

September is just around the corner and we are putting the final touches on our class, workshop and event schedule. It will be ready to post on the website soon. Plenty of interesting things to learn and do this fall.
